COACH RICK WILLMOTT
Coach Rick has been dedicated to the game since he was 12 years old and is now a dedicated C.U.D.I.T.® Concentric Hitting Coach. Coach Rick’s coaching philosophy is actually very basic-“softball is a game; it should be fun”.
Coach Rick’s 44-year fast-pitch career started when he was 12 years old, pitching in the backyard with his father (who coached a major men’s’ fastpitch team). Coach started playing in the mens fast-pitch league in upstate New York at the age of 14. During his career, he threw four perfect games and several no-hitters. He has won numerous tournaments throughout the country. This passion has led him to study hitting from the beginning of his playing days. He states "studying hitting makes a better pitcher and studying pitching makes a better hitter."
His coaching career started when his daughter started playing softball at the age of 10 and has continued coaching in the 18 years since her playing career ended. In that time, he has won over 500 games and has averaged over 30 wins per season. He has worked to place over 150 players in a college that best fits them both academically and athletically. Coach Rick is also a NFCA master coach. Receiving this is no easy feat! He has taken classes from Carol Hutchins (University of Michigan head coach, NFCA hall fame member), Cindy Bristow (owner of Softball Excellence, NFCA hall fame member), Carol Bruggeman (NFCA interim executive director, NFCA hall fame member), Beth Torina (LSU head coach), Heather Tarr (University of Washington head coach), Bill Edwards (Hofstra coach – retired), and worked directly with Coach Lisa of C.U.D.I.T.® on his path to becoming a Certified C.U.D.I.T.® Concentric Hitting Coach.
